Stormtroopers Attacking Dreamworld!

Wednesday, February 17th, 2010 | Uncategorized | 1 Comment

I'm sitting here trying to break my blog-lock with something witty and intelligent.  Instead, all I seem to be able to write is half-baked one-liners that aren't even in the same time-zone as funny.  It's surprising how quickly one gets out of the habbit…

It's funny, actually, all my life I've wanted to work at a Theme Park.  I guess it started when Cyclone Joan took me to Disneyland as a kid.
All the magic!  All the life sized characters!  I actually got to HUG MICKEY MOUSE!!!  Can you believe it?  I still cant believe it, and I'm 30 bloody years old!

Growing up, I always wanted to keep that excitement in my life.  I did work-experience at a theme park on the Sunshine Coast, and when they asked me to stay on afterwards I felt like I was the Shiznit.  Ok, so I wasn't dancing about on stage, and I wasn't painting faces, nor did I have a particularly cool uniform.  But god damn it, I was the best bloody Parfait Maker the Big Pineapple has ever seen.  I could make Parfaits that would make a diabetic die right on the spot.  Sadly, I never got promoted from behind the Parfait counter.

When I graduated high-school, I had to hang up my ice-cream scoop.  I moved up to T-bar, of the Twoomba region and started studying techy crap, so that I could design awesome special effects for movie sets - aiming to live in Hollywood, which is kinda like some massive great big theme park with its own postcode.  Sadly, time passed, and dreams faded - and I never got to work in a theme park again. I never got to paint faces, nor did I ever get to join the local Wiggles-wannabe band.

Now, however, the time has arrived.

I am going to finally fulfil one of my childhood dreams.

I am going to dress up as a Stormtrooper at Dreamworld.

Be still, my beating heart.  I mustn't cry, as my makeup will run, and I'll start looking like a Gothtrooper.  Oh my dear lord.

On the 27th December 2010, I will be somewhere in Dreamworld smiling my face off.

The Redback Garrison (Brisbane's own 501st Legion team) will be showing up at Dreamworld to raise money for the Starlight Foundation.  We'll be having professional photographers, donation tins, charity fairies, and of course, a billion characters from Star Wars wandering around the park and terrorising the local wildlife.  Kenny Koala…. back your boxing gloves baby!!  There's going to be a Dress Up Show Down.

Lesvos - Where I first tried Ouzo…

Friday, October 16th, 2009 | Uncategorized | No Comments

Lesvos. Ouzo. Those names will be forever embedded in my brain!
Less said, the better. Just so you all know, I have a bottle stowed
away in my backpack…

We found a little fishing village a way out of town, and stopped in
the ‘local’ for a drink and a bite to eat. What ensued will probably
go down in history as the day that their little world went sideways,
just for a little while.

First, the locals had a huge argument over who got to sit next to us.
Then, once the locals left, the town drunk arrived to swig some Ouzo
and try and speak to us in Greek. I’m not good at understanding Sober
Greek at the best of times, so the situation was shabby.

Then, once we got back into the town, we discovered the cafe was
trying to kill us with their realy strange after dinner “mints”. I
was distrustful, and made Bec smell mine, as it smelt very unminty.
Turns out, they werent’ mints at all - picture our surprise when we
jokingly threw one into a nearby pot of water to discover a magic
refresher towel!!!

Lesvos has been totally unexpected. Totally authentic and a joy to experience!

Santorini - and mountains of flu medications

Friday, October 16th, 2009 | Uncategorized | No Comments

Santorini - windswept and stunning. It would have been a whole lot
more relaxing, without having to find the nearest doctor in a minor
emergency.

We had a severe case of the flu - so much so, that poor Rick felt like
trash. Throat, sinus and lungs - with an additional outbreak of hives
and swollen feet and hands due to the toxic reaction to Strep.

A friendly Greek doctor prescribed a metric SHITLOAD of drugs to try
and help the situation. I’m sure the poor bastard rattles when he
walks…

Still, if you’re going to get sick, I can th

Greek Isles. Not what I expected, but a million times cooler!

Tuesday, October 13th, 2009 | Uncategorized | No Comments

I think I expected the Greek Isles to be lush and tranquil. Instead,
they’re dry and dusty - with a climate not unlike Australia. The food
is divine, the climate is fantastic, the locals are a cool blend of
maniacs and hippies.

I think this place would be anarchy in the high-season, but we’ve
timed it to perfection. There are a few other tourists around, but
we’ve mostly got the place to ourselves.

birthplace of mathematics, and theology as we know it - I was like a
