Amiens and Fromelle
Saturday, July 31st, 2010 | Uncategorized | No Comments
The Mothership and I went out for dinner last night in Amiens. What a
stunning place! Drove from the Somme through to Flanders - staying at a B&B near Ypres
(now Ieper). Drove via Fromelle and the new Australian War Grave -
first one in 60 years. Absolutly stunning. Fitting tribute, and a
lovely peaceful resting place. Hard to associate all the death and violence with this lovely peaceful
farming community.

No time to wax lyrical about my time here, as I’m shooting up to
Belgium for a few days. Has been a lovely few days - incredibly
moving. I recommend everybody coming here to France to visit the Somme
Battlefields, and learn a little more about the bravery and courage of
the Aussie Diggers. Awe inspiring and confronting. Would those
blokes who layed down their lives be proud of the Australia we have
today? Lest We Forget.

A few quick snaps from Peckover House in Wisbech. Fantastic Gardens -
and lovely house. Wasn’t permitted to take pictures inside (boo) but
they had ample flowers for me to snap at outside in the colourful
gardens!
