Funerals.
I dont know the person who is being buried, asside from a chance meeting when I was 6 years old. I dont remember them, I doubt they'd remember me. It is my Aunty's mother who has recently passed.
The family (Uncle, Aunt, Cousin, Mother and me) are heading down to London to bury this relation that I hardly know. I'm not sad. I'm not depressed. My bottom lip isn't in the slightest bit of danger from the infamous "wibble" that comes with crying miserably.
I honestly think funerals are a stupid idea. The person who's died wont know about it, nor will they get any benefit from it. Everybody who goes to a funeral invariably becomes sad and sombre, and a whole lot of effort goes into the flower arrangements that fade over time.
I may be cold hearted and cynical, but... surely it would be better for all involved to simply have a quiet little no-frills ceremony followed by a fireworks display... or a nice family dinner... or something that is even slightly enjoyable.
If anybody here outlives me... make sure I dont have a funeral. I want strangers to wonder what the fireworks were for, and I want a nice bottle of wine to be opened in my memory.
After saying that...
Lily Burke was a good woman.
I'll light a candle for her tomorrow.
